almost in the clear

Almost. I just need to make it to Thursday.

(this picture has nothing to do with this post except to remind me that my life will, eventually, be calm and orderly once again. it will, right?)

I have been scrambling around all weekend getting ready for my daughter Emily's 8th grade retreat dinner, which is happening at our house on Wednesday night. Thus, it is also all I will be doing for the next three days. I just finished overseeing a little surprise bathroom makeover (I cannot wait to share this one... but I must be patient... and find the time to upload the pictures). My kitchen is in full demolition mode (pictures of that to come). My "guest house" which i was hoping to have looking ever so cute, is currently just acting as a storage unit. And my brain is full of things I wish I could share on this blog, but simply can't find the time. Life will slow down eventually, right?

In the meantime, I have had these pictures to share sitting around for a while, so what better time to finally post them than now. Remember when I said my daughter and two of my daughters-in-law made their girlies' Easter outfits? Well, we made quite a fun night of it a few weeks ago and decided in addition to things for the little girls, we big girls deserve a little something to wear, too. Just gather up a few basic tanks, plenty of fabric scraps, your favorite girls (or at least as many of them as you can round up) and your no.1 treats and drinks and, I promise, you will have yourself a fantastic evening.

We made ruffles to embellish our simple, plain tanks and added them in all sorts of different ways.

The little girls got some cute applique instead and a few little sleeve ruffles...

My daughter-in-law, Mary, sewed a ruffle to the bottom of an old slip skirt she never wears any more to make it a little more exciting...

And even cuter, she threw it on under a J.P. and Mattie skirt (did you know we carry J.P. and Mattie at the Willows?) to give the entire thing a whole new look...

So, have some fun adding ruffles to simple tanks to liven them up. If nothing else, it is a fun excuse for a girls' night. We will be sure to post some more of our finished products. If you give it a try, let us know. We would love to see what you come up with!

Oooh, I adore these little embellishments. I have a sewing machine that's currently much smarter than I am, but I think these details would be easy to tackle.

I like what you did with the skirt, this could be applied to anything if only I stopped procrastinating. Two dogs and two teenagers slow my ruffle making down a little as well. I think what you did with the guest house is just lovely too.

I am so glad you ladies all love the ruffles! If you lived in phoenix, I would invite you over for a girls' night of ruffle making... hmm, perhaps the willows should host a girls' night for crafting... something to think about, indeed.
love hearing from you all!
