a natural christmas

Am I really blogging about Christmas before its even Halloween?  Yes, but just a little (ok, I know I mentioned Christmas shopping yesterday also...).  However, in my defense, I think you are going to want to hear what I have to share as they are limited and in the store as I type.  We just got in the special edition Christmas issue of our No. 1 magazine Jeanne d'Arc Living and we only have 15 copies!  It is full of so much goodness, I promise you want one.  If you are anything like me, you could sit and drool over the pages for hours.  And you might want to pick up an extra one for that friend who would love to drool over the pages also (it is a most perfect gift, I do believe).  Oh, and there are now only 14 copies as I am getting one for myself...

I really love the idea of a simple and natural Christmas when it comes to decorating.  The whole "less is more" approach.  I picked up a couple of these amazing desert coral the other day for my mantle.  I am planning to fill them with white lights and maybe throw up some pine cones and eucalyptus and be done.  Simple, earthy and natural - that's what I'm going for this year.  And, in case anyone wanted to join me, I grabbed a few extra desert coral just for you.  There are only a few at the Willows currently and, sadly, when they are gone, they're gone.  I must say, I think they are rather fantastic and I think you might think so as well...

And one last thing while we are still talking Christmas...
We just put our Linnea's Lights candles in our online store as it is finally cool enough to ship them!  These are one of our top picks for holiday gifts for anyone you need that special little something for - friend, hostess, teacher, coworker...  maybe, yourself.  These candles are amazing, as is the lovely Laura behind them!  Go ahead, give them a try...

Ok, enough about Christmas...
for a little while, at least...

We are planning to start setting the store for Christmas November 1, however, so I guess we will be talking more about Christmas soon enough...  Hope no one minds!

a little something for the kids

Next time you have to get a new baby present or a child's birthday gift, don't forget about all the fun little prizes we have for all the little ones in your life.  And would I be crazy if I suggested early Christmas shopping?  When you have as many kids and grandkids as I do, I guess you learn to start thinking ahead.  The above Blabla dolls are a huge favorite among my grandkids.  Little Ruby has an orange hair doll named Carrots and my three year old grandson Finn sleeps with Doggy Baby and Monkey Baby every night.

This tree house is the big family favorite.  I have one in the middle of my playroom and the kids can play with it for hours...

Or maybe you even want to give a little something fun this Halloween other than candy...

Come by and see all the cute little goodies for yourself!
Or check out which ones are available in our online shop!

some halloween fun

Last week I was at Michael's and couldn't resist all the fun halloween stuff they had, so I decided I should buy a bunch and have all the grandkids over to decorate t-shirts and cupcakes.  The weather has been so lovely and the kids had so much fun crafting and playing together.

Is it surprising to anyone that the boys abandoned the shirt decorating first and ran off to play in the yard...

And the girls stayed with it for quite a while...

For dinner we made delicious grilled cheese sandwiches on the grill out back and the kids decorated cupcakes for dessert...

And it seems there is always a birthday or two right around the corner that we can celebrate when we all get together, so we sang happy birthday to my mom, Martha, and my daughter, Emily...

It was a wonderful family night.
So, do you have any fun Halloween plans for this week or weekend?
Do share...

a little more turquoise

Not for me this time, however.  Every so often I stop in to Hissyfits (a fantastic kids' consignment store here in Phoenix) to see what's new.  One of the lucky things about having 16 grandkids is that I can walk through a store like this and pick up anything that catches my eye and I am bound to have someone that will fit into it.  My granddaughter Lucy was the lucky recipient of my No. 1 prize this time around.  Is it ok to be a little jealous of a 5 year old's coat?  Just a little?

Can you tell we had a hard time getting her to pose?

Let me tell you how fast I would grab one of these if I found it in my size.
Fast.

our last splash

A couple of weeks ago we decided to send summer off in style.  (Is it interesting to anyone else that we say goodbye to summer at the end of September?)  We planned one last dinner by the pool with grilled pizzas, our last pitcher of gin and tonics for the season and kids in the pool for what is likely to be the last time this year (although it has been rather warm again...).  And, because we can't help ourselves around here, Christine and I decided our dinner should have all the lovely touches of an actual dinner party...

Do you think Ruby got more tomatoes on her toast or on the table...

We ate and drank and swam until the moonlight was dim.
It was lovely.

Goodbye, Summer.  You were lots of fun this year.  We'll miss you.
