still working...

So, there are always those little touches you thought would be done with a remodel that end up sitting there for years undone...  I had big plans when we put these doors in that I would have this amazing metal work put in, hang beautiful outdoor draperies and grow something all along the metal bars.  Months after the remodel I had the metal work put up, then nothing for a while.  And this summer I finally started growing something on it, but still no draperies.  Maybe in a few months I will have those to share...  we'll see.

redecorating for fall

I love decorating for the seasons, even if it is just a few little things I put out to be festive and then general rearranging because I simply cannot help myself.  I love this recent find of an old portrait with the added mask and flames coming out of her hair.  And, then I can't help but put up some new mirrors and frames and a new lamp I got for a steal at an antique store and move things from place to place...  Tell me I'm not the only one who does this each new season (or every couple months...)?

And, of course, I always have to put out my pumpkins.  

These are a holiday decoration I will never get tired of.

I especially love my bowl of baby pumpkins...

haunted house

This weekend some of the grandkids and I had a lot of fun making our own haunted house.  I bought this old doll house at the flea market for $5, then picked up some decorating supplies at Michael's and we went to work.  The kids had so much fun and I love the way it turned out.  A little spooky, a little kitschy, a little silly...  just right.  I really loved watching their creativity and how they wanted to decorate it, like the rooms full of spiders.  So, what do you think?

welcome, baby bella!

Our wonderful, sweet Jen just had her baby on Friday and we cannot get over how beautiful little Bella is!  Can you believe those chubby cheeks on a newborn baby!  Congratulations, Jen and Vance!  We cannot wait to meet little Bella in person!  Welcome to the world sweet baby girl!

birthdays

Well, my two youngest children are both hitting some pretty major birthdays this year... 21 and 16.  Before Alex left to go back to college we had a little birthday party for him, along with our family tradition of a slideshow on your 21st birthday.  This year we set up a screen by the pool and let all the little kids float around on rafts as we watched the last 21 years of Al's life go by in photos.  Then, he was off to school where, I am sure, he had the real 21st birthday party with all his friends.  And, next up is Emily's birthday.  What do you do as a parent in the age of extravagant sweet 16 parties?  Can some nice gifts and a tray of cupcakes cut it?  Do you do anything major for birthdays in your family?  Do you have any birthday traditions that fall with certain ages?  Please share!  Perhaps I can come up with something for a 16 year old that isn't too over the top...

around the shop

More new things around the shop to share.  All our little fall treasures and fall colors have me so excited for the seasons ahead!  And, of course, we have some always exciting Halloween goodies to get you in that spooky Halloween mood!  So much new stuff, you really should just stop in and see us.  And, once again, a huge new order hit the store today, after these pictures were taken, so it is already looking new once more...  Isn't that the fun of it?
