Sunday, we were having the family all over to our house for dinner and we came up with the idea of making terrariums with all the kids. We got all the supplies, set up a couple tables in the yard and let the kids go to town. It was so fun and they all turned out adorable. (Martha Stewart gives good directions and a how-to video
here).

I highly recommend making terrariums with any age group of kids. The two year olds to the twelve year olds (and even the adults) loved it.
The rest of the afternoon was spent doing the usual family gathering activities. Sipping wine in the grass, kids playing on the trampoline or in the tree house, lounging around the yard...

wrestling...

being goofy...

and just hanging out with family...

Since the kitchen is currently out of commission and the guest house kitchen is not exactly equipped for a big group, we decided to do grilled pizzas and let each person make their own. The kids rolled, stretched and tossed their own dough. We threw it on the grill for a few minutes, then gave it back to them, they added toppings and then we put it back on the grill to finish it up. I have to say, we have some fabulous little pizza chefs on our hands over here.
Did you do anything fun this weekend?

What a great idea!!! I'm going to have to throw a party so the kids can do this!! ;)
Nothing fun like that! I love your checkered plates. I've been wanting to try pizza on the barbie. You've inspired to give it a go. Any tips I need to know?
that sounds like the perfect weekend! i want to make a homemade grilled pizza right now!!
Rosanne, what we have learned about grilling pizzas is to stretch them out with olive oil, so that they don't stick to the grill. Grill them for a few minutes on both sides, then add you toppings to the side that is slightly more done (since the other side will be sitting on the grill again for a while) and throw them back on the grill so the cheese can melt, etc. I highly recommend making them! Let us know how they turn out!
I'm exhausted just looking at all of this and I only have one child. You certainly have a lot of energy AND creativity!
Happy weekend and mother's day to you.
